On March 27, 2008, the PAT Board of Trustees voted to dissolve the PAT organization.
Those that currently hold PATH or TABI certification will maintain their certification until it expires. Recertification will no longer be offered by PAT, since the PAT organization no longer exists.
The PAT Board of Trustees recognizes that it could not have existed the last eighteen years without the support of our participants and promotion of our certification programs by the state telecom organizations. We wish to thank our participants for their support over these years.
Sincerely,
The PAT Board of Trustees
The difficulty in keeping
current of all the rapidly
changing telecommunications
technology prompted a group
of healthcare professionals
to get together in January
of 1990. The stated goal of
that first meeting was to form
an organization that would
sponsor or present formal classes
to healthcare professionals
that make their living managing
telecommunications in healthcare
facilities. Thus was born PATH
or Professional Accreditation
for Telecommunications in Healthcare,
Inc. To receive PATH certification,
100 course hours must be successfully
completed, at which time, the
participant becomes certified
as a CTPH or Certified Telecommunications
Professional in Healthcare.
As the organization expanded
over the years by developing
new courses and modules, it
became very clear that the
need for telecommunications
education traveled beyond healthcare.
In 1995, PATH created another
certification, TABI or Telecommunications
Accreditation in Business and
Industry. Once the criterion
has been met, the participant
becomes certified as a CTP
or Certified Telecommunications
Professional.
In 2004, a third certification,
PATT or Professional Accreditation
for Telecommunication Technicians
was added. CTT or Certified
Telecommunication Technician
is awarded once all requirements
are fulfilled.
Later this year, yet another
certification will be launched.
This new certification will
be awarded to call center agents
and telephone operators. Although
the details have yet to be
finalized, PATH is once again
recognizing the ongoing need
for telecommunication education
in all areas of the telecom
field.
As PATH has continued to
evolve and grow, it became
obvious that the organization
is more than a certification
in healthcare. Recently, the
PATH Board of Trustees determined
that the PATH name needed to
reflect the evolution of the
organization into all areas
of the telecommunications industry.
PATH's name has changed to
PAT, Professional Accreditation
for Telecommunications, Inc.
The PAT name is the umbrella
for the PATH, TABI, and PATT
Certifications, as well as,
any new certifications that
will be created.
PAT is supported by and partners
with:
- Ohio Hospital Telecommunications
Associations
(OHTA)
- Michigan
Association for
Telecommunications
in Healthcare (MATH)
- Delaware
Valley HIMSS
in Pennsylvania
(DVHIMSS)
- Wisconsin Healthcare
Telecommunications
Association (WHTA)
Support for PAT is gaining
momentum. So far,
over 1400 telecommunication
managers
from 40 states and
Canada have completed
one or more PAT modules
and 150 people from
around the country
have gained CTPH,
CTP and CTT status.
